The
Benefits Of Meditation
To
meditate is like turning the volume down on a
room full of noisy, demanding people in order to hear ourselves
think!
Our
minds are capable of having thousands upon thousands of thoughts
per day. That's an awful lot of information for one person to
handle. Not only do our five senses of;
'Feel',
'See', 'Hear', 'Smell' and 'Taste' bombard us with messages
that we process into emotions and reactions,
But
we are also 'gifted' with the ability to;
Reason,
Philosophize, Judge and Desire the things in the world around
us, including the other people in it!
We
get carried along by the tide of current trends. We get brainwashed
by the media urging us to obtain objects, status and image in
order to feel happy and complete.
The
material world dictates to us a strong desire for wealth and importance.
It incorporates a need for us to compete with and impress our
fellow man with our abundance of wisdom and possessions.
The
majority of our religions are also aggressively competitive, preaching
hypocrisy, superiority and righteousness over those who are not
a part of it!
We
can get caught up in this dog eat dog mentality - and often do
because, to not conform, to achieve and prosper, often means developing
a lack of self worth or feelings of 'not fitting in' which can
lead to isolation and resentment.
It's
little wonder we lose the connection with our 'self' and simply
become reflections of our physical surroundings!
So
Turn The Volume Down!
Call
a little time out! The strain of living and competing in such
a complex and demanding world can lead to an unending list of
personal complications;
- Poor
mental health inc. Stress, insomnia, anxiety, paranoia, depression
etc.
- Physical
ill health and apathy
- Isolation,
loss of direction and good conscience
-
anger, envy, gluttony, greed and dispassion
Seated
deep within the core of our mind lies;
'true
wisdom', 'self control', 'truth', 'harmony with our existence'
and, the most important human quality of all - 'pure love!'
Losing touch with these core essences is easy to do - in fact,
pretty much inevitable without some form of regular grounding
mechanism.
That's
Where Meditation steps in!
If
you think about it, most forms of relaxation actually involve
a degree of meditation, for example, leisurely reading allows
our conscious mind to focus on something other than our day to
day life, giving it rest and rejuvenation.
The
leisure industry recognizes the great need for people
to call time out on their demanding schedules, it's therefore
prospering and growing at a never-before-seen rate. At every corner
we are being offered;
- All
kinds of Vacations and Short Breaks
- Cinemas,
Film Clubs, 24 hour Television
- The
Internet!
- Gyms
and Health Spas
- Entertainment
Parks, Arcades, Clubs & Groups
- Games
consoles & Software
-
Music Pods & Software
-
Communications devises & Software
And
the list goes on!
Unfortunately
not everyone can afford the time or money to take advantage of
these delightful things, and even if they can;
When
it's time to go home or stop - the fun comes to a quick and
abrupt end. It's back down to earth with a heavy thud - reality
strikes!
In
other words - It's not a permanent solution for someone who is
unhappy, frustrated or discontent before they started, nothing
will have changed when they finish!
YOU
DON'T HAVE TO BE A ZEN BUDDHIST TO PRACTICE DEEP MEDITATION
Nor
do you have to be part of any;
Religion,
Belief system, Color nor Creed -
It's
on offer to us all! And it's one of the most inexpensive, natural
and effective ways to reduce;
Stress,
Anxiety, Insomnia, Fatigue, emotional problems, even physical
illness!
It
enhances our mental clarity, memory and cognition, our ability
to effectively cope, to find solutions. It increases our capacity
to learn, grow, adapt and change things about us and our surroundings
for the better.
It
centers and grounds us and gives us the opportunity to listen
to an 'inner wisdom' that we ALL possess.
